Fluster is an open-source, OS-independent, testing framework written in Python for multimedia decoder conformance. Its purpose is to check various implementations against reference test suites with known and proven results. The decoders can be standalone executables, as well as GStreamer- or FFmpeg-based. The tool was originally designed to check the conformance of H.265/HEVC decoders, nowadays it also supports H.264/AVC, H.266/VVC, VP8, VP9, AV1 and AAC.
Fluster is composed of a CLI application that runs a number of test suites with the supported decoders and compares the checksum of the resulting outputs against reference ones. Its modular design permits someone to easily extend its functionality and also add more decoders and test suites.
In this talk we will provide an overview of Fluster and its functionalities covering the following topics:
- Introduction to Fluster
- Running Fluster and analyzing the output
- Extending Fluster: adding a new decoder or a new test suite
- Next step: PyPI, fluster package, webcodecs, GStreamer CI integration
- Open Questions to talk with the fluster community
